Just saw X-Men, and I really need some race and gender conscious - TopicsExpress

Just saw X-Men, and I really need some race and gender conscious friends to discuss this movie with!!! Stan Lee originally created the comic to reflect Social and political issues within the Civil Rights Movement. So it only makes sense that the x-men are black people, and similarly, the leaders of the X-men are pretty reflective of MLK Jr, and Malcolm X. I found it to be interesting that the movie covered topics such as unethical government funded testing on x-men (Google Tuskegee experiments), and using the DNA/cells of x-men to make humans stronger (google Johns Hopkins stem cel research with black womans cells). And I found it hilarious that the mastermind behind the government testing was a little person, who I interpreted to be half a man, and very insecure of himself, and therefore had to create others out of the x-men. Also, Both this film, and x-men first class seem to make Mystique the center of attention. Mystique is an x-(wo)man who used to have major beauty insecurities, and often passed herself off as someone she wasnt. So many hidden messages within the movie..
