Just sent the newsletter for today. The Final Bib list will be posted late, late this evening. Here is the newsletter ... --------------- Good Morning Athletes! We have much to discuss, so let’s get started… 1. In-Person Registration. We have 50 race spots available for the Sunday, CLCHM event. These are sold on a first come, first serve basis at the Saturday packet pick-up. Cost is $100, cash only. Once these are gone, I will post an announcement on the official event website and Facebook page. 2. Packet Pick-up. We have two packet pick-up opportunities. We are trying a few things different with our packet pick-ups, so if this process works (including race day pick-ups) this will become our new standard. The Saturday morning packet pick-up will be held at Valeo Physical Therapy located at 1235 Clear Lake City Blvd, Houston, TX 77062 from 10am to 3pm. Please make every attempt to collect your packet at this opportunity. The second packet pick-up will be held race morning from 5am to 6am. There will be tables designated by CLCHM, Macho Man and I Rocked 39.3. Go to the appropriate table to receive your bib and race swag. Again, make it easy on yourself and come Saturday. 3. Race Timing Chips. These will be ready for you to collect at the Chip Timing Tent on race morning between 5-6am. You will need to show your bib to the friendly volunteer so they can hand you your timing device. There will also be ties for you to tether the chip timing device to your shoe. For those participating in the relay, you will have a Velcro ankle chip timing device. 4. Parking. A parking map has been posted on the official event website and Facebook page. It is also included in your race packet. Parking is available at all of the school parking lots which are located very close to the start/finish area. The furthest parking area is ½ mile to the start/finish. Please DO NOT PARK in the Urgent Care facility. Cars will be towed. 5. Guest Speaker/Race Starter. I’m stoked to announce that Felix Lugo will be our guest speaker/race starter. Like many of you, he is an athlete and enjoys the sport of endurance running. He is a staple to our community and can often be recognized by running with a giant American Flag. Felix is also a proud Veteran serving in the Army from ’75-’81, with his last years of service being with the 82nd Airborne. There is a great story as to why he runs with the American Flag, and folks, I’m going to let him inspire you with that meaning race morning. After his moving words he will join you, to participate in the race and basically have 13.1 miles of sheer fun and athleticism. 6. Extra Medals. Over 75% of the racers this Sunday will be earning an extra medal and 115 lovely ladies will be earning three spectacular medals. Please note, that we have created a process to make sure every individual who earned an extra medal (either Macho Man or I Rocked 39.3), will receive it. Upon crossing the finish line, everyone will receive their beautiful CLCHM medal. Volunteers will be directing those participants wearing either an orange or green bibs to the coordinating table. Friendly volunteers will be there to give you your well-earned extra medals. You must show them your bib in order to receive the coordinating envelope that has your bib number on it. After your envelope is given to you, you will then be moved to the food and post-race massage sections. 7. Food. Post-race foods will include breakfast tacos from Taco Cabana (bean/cheese & egg/potato), your choice of cheese or pepperoni slices from Bucks Pizza, and of course fruit and iced down bottled waters and Gatorades. The food is designated for participants only. 8. Post-race Massages. Very thankful to our sponsor Valeo Physical Therapy will be on hand race morning to give post-race massages. Please be sure to stop by their tent so they can get you taken care of. That’s it folks for the race 411 details, and now I will leave you with two quick things. First. The teams of volunteers, my race team members, set-up crews and I are ready – and with GREAT enthusiasm. We are ready and we are honored to host you this Sunday, making your race experience be the moment to have fun and shine. Two. For many years I was the Organizer for Bay Area Fit and before every Saturday morning group run or before any race, I would start my speech to my crews of peeps with my most favorite quote from Steve Prefontaine - “To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift.” It is truly a gift what we do, what we accomplish any given race morning. We are all equal in that we stand at the same start line. We are all equal in that we endure the same toughness of the distance/course. We are all equal that we embrace the smiles and friendly cheers from complete strangers. This crazy gift we have of running/walking 13.1 miles (at one time) also serves as inspiration to those who cannot run/walk, or to those who are too afraid to try... On Sunday, November 10th, 2013 – BRING YOUR BEST! Can’t wait to see you guys soon – Wahoo!!! Frank and Angelica Binetti, Race Directors clearlakecityhalf info@clearlakecityhalf
