Just spent some 4 hours listening to and interacting with UofA astronomy prof Edward Prather in a stimulating workshop on implementing active learning in the science classroom. Prather does think-pair-share/group work/in-class writing/tutorials… a variety of pretty intense active learning techniques... in a class of 800+ Gen Ed students!!! With not too many more resources than we have on our campus. My mind boggles at the sheer scale of that task; he seems to revel in it. Much to think about as I reflect upon my own evolving teaching approaches. Thank you California State University, Fresno: College of Science & Math for bringing him here today.
