Just when we think things are calming down a bit after a rough - TopicsExpress

Just when we think things are calming down a bit after a rough several weeks, now we need your support and positive thoughts for two of our rescues. Brody is a 2 year old Blind, heartworm positive, lab mix that came to us from a shelter in Ohio where he was confiscated from a hoarding situation. Upon arrival we noticed some behaviors that were not quite normal, and after discussion with our regular veterinarians we changed a few things, added a couple medications, and weeks later there was still no change. We then realized he was a more complicated case than we thought. We took Brody to a specialty hospital on Tuesday. The doctor said he was a very complex case. It took almost an entire day and many different tests, but he was finally diagnosed with a Liver Shunt (not just one, but 16!) He is not a candidate for surgery, and they are trying a trial medication at this very moment to see if he responds. So please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Brody is a young sweet boy who we are hoping will have a bright future ! And to finish things off we have CHARLEY, Im sure you all remember Charley....He came to us in October 2013 with horrible luxating patellas that required surgical repair. He was doing great for a while, and it was explained that an ACL tear was possible after this kind of surgery. Well guess what...Charley is in surgery today to repair a tore ACL in one of his knees. Poor guy just cant catch a break. So we will have a long recovery ahead of us with Charley. Please send positive vibes his way also! Whew....This rescue work is a tough business mentally, physically, and emotionally. Those of us that work with these dogs get attached to them like they are our own. This past month has not been one for the weak. One good thing about always being busy at the rescue is that it keeps our minds moving, and we dont have time to sit and get emotional about all of the heartache that has happened the past several weeks.
