KANO CENTRAL MOSQUE, A 700 YEAR OLD HISTORY: The great Central - TopicsExpress

KANO CENTRAL MOSQUE, A 700 YEAR OLD HISTORY: The great Central Mosque of Kano is one of the most impressive in West Africa. It started as a low profile rectangular mosque sanctuary in 14 century. A bigger mosque was built for Sarkin Kano Muhammadu Rumfa in the 15th century. The mosque was made of mud and was of the soro (tower) variety. The mosque was moved to a new site by Sarkin Kano Muhammadu Zaki in 1582 and rebuilt between 1855 and 1883 by Abdullahi Dan Dabo. Kano Central Mosque was destroyed in the 1950s to be remodelled with the support of the British. This was in appreciation of Nigerias role in the Second World War. All through this long period of time, there was never a time this sacred place failed to host a congregational prayer. Today, November 28, 2014, a Friday congregational prayer was abruptly stopped as scores of people were killed as a result of a dastadly attack. Allah ba Ka barci, Allah Kana ji, Kana gani. Allah ba mu da karfi, Allah ba mu isa ba. Allah gamu gareka, Allah Ka isar mana.
