KISMET UPDATE - On saturday Esra took Kismet to an area in Akbel that he is familiar with and people will look out for him.Esra will be regularly visiting and Linda and myself will go up there today. When Kismet arrived at the clinic with an old shot wound a lot of the flash had to be removed and he was left with a big hole in his body. This has healed really well and its quite amazing to see him now.He was very calm at first (trauma) but as he has got better his character has come out and he has grown more and more frustrated with clinic life.He no longer wanted to just sit on the terrace and watch the world go by,he has probably roamed for the last 3/4 years! He was becoming almost aggresive with frustration but we had to keep him until he was healed. He enjoyed walking on a lead but was strong and at times that proved difficult too,as he met unfamiliar people and other dogs. We felt it highly unlikely he would be homed in the near future,if ever and the home would have to have large enclosed grounds where he could roam easily and he may still not settle. We did not want to send him to a dogs home,he would probably stay enclosed for the rest of his life and would not be compatable with many other dogs.We may not have been able to get them to take him anyway. To put him on the unfamiliar streets of Kalkan was out of the question. Those that has got to know Kismet best, looked long and hard at the situation and we took advice from Hasan along the way.He is a lovely boy and always let us treat his wound with no problem at all. There was no easy answer but we all decided the best option for him to go back to a familiar area where he will be watched over by the locals and visited by us all too.We have seen number of shot dogs over the years and it seems that most are just random attacks by cruel and hateful people and they are not targeting anyone special. We hope that he will be safe and the reports so far are that he is settled back in with a couple of his doggie friends and doing ok.I will keep you all updated - as you can see he has a special place in my heart.
