Karma Adebisi knew being enthrone as the king of Alegba kingdom wont be an easy thing but he was well prepared for any scenario. As a rich prince he had greased various palm to make sure his way to the throne is smoothened but none of his tips was capable of making this predicament pass over him, its their custom and tradition. He lingered in the solitary confinement he was placed in. Cold and hunger joined forces to torment his soul as he sat on the mat which happened to be the only furniture in the room. His mind travelled down the memory lane to the time when it all started. It was two month ago when the paramount ruler of the kingdom boarded a shuttle to heaven after months of having a royal rumble with cancer. Adebisi was in his office enjoying life as the manager of an oil company when he received a call from a friend telling him that their wish has been granted.Since then he has been making plans to get into the palace. Having received support from every member of his family, he proceeded to visit the kings maker one after the other with a fat envelope. He was highly elated when the news came to him that he has been pronounced by the kings maker as the next king contrary to what the oracle said. There was an uproar among the people saying he wasnt the right person, an uproar which led into a riot claiming lives but the kings maker made their decision unchangeable. After the pandemonium had settled down, his coronation began and this was his last test as a king. It was their custom that whoever is to be enthrone must be kept in confinement for eight hours without food or any drink. The agonizing pain in his stomach intensified as his mind returned to his body. He who had never gone four hours without eating now began to feel the terrible whip of hunger. He staggered up to his feet and started walking about the room. As he was walking suddenly his foot hit something, he bend down to check what it was and to his surprise he found out that it was a calabash having a cornmeal (eko) and beans cake (akara) as its content. The smile which had faded from his face since he entered the room was returned by the aroma of the beans cake. Without thinking twice, he bounced on the food and started shoving it into his mouth. He didnt stop until the calabash was empty then he carefully hid the calabash and went back to his spot. Eventhough the hunger left him, but the pain in his stomach returned after ten minutes of eating but this time more brutal. He first thought of screaming for help but he remembered no one would be around to hear him. He checked his wrist watch and saw that he only had fifteen more minutes to spend in the room.
