Kashmiris’ identity, religion at stake: Geelani, demands strict public punishment to culprits of Gool killings Srinagar, July 20: (GNS) Terming the statements of Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as routine and mere formality, Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani Saturday said that neither any investigation initiated nor accused in the case would be prosecuted in court of law. “It is confirmed that the accused won’t be convicted for their crime and nor would administration come with answer about the convicted and their jail lodgment,” Geelani in a statement issued to GNS said. He said that government announcements with respect to Gool Ramban tragedy are fraud and deceptive aimed at to cool down the hurt sentiments of people. “And most likely, it would be that the BSF group involved in the incident will be moved to another location,” he said. Terming Omar Abdullah as the dejected person, Syed Ali Geelani said he is morally bound to protect the life and property of the people and cannot run away from his responsibilities. “By simply issuing a statement just for eyewash cannot work. If he fails to fulfill this responsibility then he has no right to stick to power,’ he said. Expressing his surprise over Chief Minister’s tweet wherein he, while lamenting the media that “they put the death toll 6 or 7 instead of actual toll of 4”, Syed Ali Geelani said that it depicts the mindset of Omar Abdullah. “As for him killing of four persons is not a big problem,” Geelani said, adding that if an innocent person is killed by government forces, the regimes are shaken and even at times the head of the states do resign and step down. The Hurriyat Chairman said that Muslim Ummah consider the desecration of Holy Qur’an more serious and that announcement of ex-gratia amount for those assassinated is a deceptive practice about the serious issue. Lashing out at authorities, the Chairman said that imposing curfew in entire valley, use of immense force against peaceful protesters, injuring more than 50 persons and ransacking the properties and mosques convey lesson for Muslim community of Jammu and Kashmir that both their identity and religion are at stake. Geelani while hailing the people of Jammu region said that although they are in the grip of police, village defense committees and communal elements, however their love and passion for Islam and freedom movement is not diminished which proves that they are with the ongoing freedom movement. “The people in Jammu region in past have offered unparallel sacrifices and history stands testimony for this when they with their velour expressed their attachment with Islam and freedom movement in 1947, 1965 and 1971.” Demanding stringent punishment for those BSF personnel involved in Gool massacre, Syed Ali Geelani said those involved in gruesome killing should be punished in public.
