✣ Kata Tjuta (Aboriginal name, which means many heads ) - Central Australia The Central Australian landscape, of which Uluru and Kata Tjuta are an important part, is believed to have been created at the beginning of time. The Anangu Aboriginal people are responsible for the protection and appropriate management of these ancestral lands. The knowledge necessary to fulfil these responsibilities has been passed down from generation to generation. Kata Tjuta, ( or the Olgas), are a group of large domed rock (36) that cover an area of 21.68 km2 - and the tallest is said to be around 546 metres high. (Uluru sits at just 25 km distance for KT). There are many Dreamtime legends associated with this place - such as the legend of the great snake king Wanambi who is said to live on the summit of Kata Tjuta and only comes down during the dry season. (The majority of mythology surrounding the site is not disclosed to outsiders). Photograph © ellen ♥ vaman (Kat Tjuta /Uluru National Park, Australia ) facebook/ellenvaman
