Katie asked, I am researching homeschooling. My daughter is considered legally blind. She has enough functional vision that she can read letters, though she may need enlarged print. (The Commision for the Blind and Visually Impaired MAY cover some of those supplies.) She also receives services several times a week: physical therapy, occupational therapy, and TVI [teacher for the visually impaired]. The school has told me that once she is school age, they have to provide services, but in their school. They wont come to the home. Even though she will be homeschooled, apparently homeschool is not considered a school. Does this sound right? She receives so many services that I dont see how this will work. She is very functional. I have heard of some kids with physical disabilities receiving home visits. But maybe thats a while different circumstance. We live in upstate NY. I am wondering if this is something I should be fighting for. And Ive strived to have the BEST relationship w the school district, as weve been involved w them since she was three.
