Keith Birch and Simon Ball. D Day +5 Both woke this morning - TopicsExpress

Keith Birch and Simon Ball. D Day +5 Both woke this morning feeling a bit ropey after trying to polish off 5 litres of red wine last night! (Stupid Boys) Was then shocked to find the tank had taken a direct hit by a shell during the night. After further inspection we then realised it was the German tosser who we had parked next to at the Longues-sur-mer battery yesterday totally taking out the fuel cap. after some running repairs we were on our way to our first objective, St-Lo This was another of the Americans objectives during the invasion and as per usual there wasnt much to see as they had annihilated everything. (whose side was they really on?) all that remained was half a church and some ruins of an old wall. We did however pop in the church for daily confessions! From here we mustered up the coast to Utah Beach through St-Martin-de-Varreville and again was both disappointed to find the bucket and spade shop closed. The beach here is stunning so we decided to explore the Atlantic wall defences and reccy the surrounding area for V2 rocket launching sites. The nearest we got to finding them was a U2 record that was playing in the tank as we headed for St-Mere-Eglise. St-Mere-Eglise is 10Km inland of Utah and it was the job of the American Airborne division to take the village. Upon on arrival we discovered one of the paratroopers strapped to the top of the church by his parachute. We immediately jumped into action and got Keiths ladder off the tank to rescue him. Before leaving we came across Wheelie Bin Head who was lurking outside a local bar in the square. After a quick interrogation and checking his papers we discovered his name was Louis-van-Gaal who was working under cover for the Dutch Army. Returning to base to finish off our supplies of red wine. Over and Out.
