Keogh review report published Sir Bruce Keogh has published his report into higher than expected mortality rates at 14 NHS trusts, which includes the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In a joint statement, Richard Davies OBE, Chair of Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire, and Trevor Smith, acting Chair of Healthwatch North Lincolnshire have responded to the report in saying; “The report published clearly demonstrates that there needs to be profound changes in how the NHS listens to the feedback, concerns and complaints of patients and the wider community, and takes appropriate action. The report highlights that service providers should forge strong relationships with local Healthwatch who will be able to help them engage with patients. Both Healthwatch North Lincolnshire and Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire, along with Healthwatch North East Lincolnshire, already have a date scheduled with Northern & Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust to plan how Healthwatch can support the Trust to engage and listen to their patients about the full range of issues that impact on their care and treatment.” Dr Liz Scott, Medical Director for the Trust in her response to the report stated: “We very much welcome this report and value the Keogh team’s support and advice. The Keogh team have been fair in highlighting examples of good practice as well as improvements that need to be made. There is still more work to do but we are confident we will continue to bring our mortality ratios down further.” Dr Gina Palumbo, clinical chair of East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said; “Patient safety and quality of care are our highest priorities and we are committed to working with the Trust to ensure action is taken quickly to resolve the concerns raised in the Keogh Review, and that the recommendations within the Action Plan are fully implemented.” Trevor Smith, acting Chair of Healthwatch North Lincolnshire added; “We are keen to support the Trust in implementing the resulting action plan and encourage members of the public to get in touch with their local Healthwatch organisation to share their views and experiences of local services so that Healthwatch can ensure that the voice of the patient drives service improvements”. Sir Bruce Keogh has also issued a thank you to those involved in the review stating; “Patient and public participation was a key principle of the review, and your input played a vital part in helping our team to better understand the performance of each of the trusts under investigation. “
