Kilkeel RNLI best ever Fun Day The Kilkeel RNLI Fun Day held 5 July 2014 recently was according to those who supported the event the best ever. The day would not have been the success it was without the input from the local community and with this mind Kilkeel RNLI would like to thank the: Newcastle RNLI; Southdown Coastguard; N.I. Ambulance Service, N.I. Fire and Rescue Service, PSNI and the Mourne Underwater Search and Rescue Team for all taking part in the 999 Parade; and a very welcome addition to the parade this year was local Vintage Vehicle Club – their presence at the harbour certainly added interest; John Lowry and his crew for the use of their boat and the giving of their time so freely for the very popular boat rides; Michael Young, the Harbour Master; the Harbour Authority crew for their help; DR Diesel for the use of their pontoon; First Trust and Danske Banks for their sponsorship; Rafferty’s for the bouncy castle; the South down Coastguard ; S &P Milligan for the kippers; James Norris for the use of the digger in the Ultimate Digger Challenge – popular with the young and the not-so-young; the rock/blues group Split Lip for the music; Philip Keenan for acting as compere; Heather’s for organising, taking in entries, weighing in the fish and supplying the prizes for the fishing competition; Knox’s for the charcoal; James Cunningham for supplying the burgers; Asda and Spar (the Moor) for other food items; and finally the wives and partners of the crew for all their help on the day and their understanding every day. At the moment not all the expenses have been taken out but approximately £1,300 has been raised and the final total will be distributed between the Kilkeel RNLI, Mourne Stimulus and P.I.P.S. Kilkeel RNLI would again like to thank all those who donated so generously on the day and be assured that the monies will be well spent by the organisations mentioned.
