Know a Buncombe County high school students interested in a career in healthcare? Minority Medical Mentoring Program - Health Careers Academy Deadline: August 23, 2013 - but apply ASAP - space is limited -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Academy is designed to heighten awareness and provide students with a variety of experiences in healthcare. Students will participate in exciting activities such as; a heart dissection lab; a medical reader’s theater; a healthcare disparities workshop; a medical simulation mannequin lab; and opportunities to develop professional skills for any career. They will also have opportunities to talk with members of health professions about their careers and how they reached their career goals. This opportunity also allows students to discuss the classes they need to take in middle and high school in preparation for their college education and other enrichment programming. Minority Medical Mentoring Program (MMMP) Health Careers Academy is sponsored by the Mission Health System, Asheville Buncombe Institute for Parity Achievement (ABIPA), Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) and the Western Carolina Medical Society (WCMS). The Academy is open to minority high school students that reside in Buncombe County. Dates: Five Saturdays; September 7, 14, 21, 28 and October 5, 2013. Time: 9am to 12 noon Location: Owen Heart Center on Mission Hospital Campus.
