Know where you’re going. If you don’t know where you’re headed, no one else will. – Anon From The Principal When I was a young boy, I once told my father I hadn’t had time to complete a task he’d given me. He told me that there is all the time there is; you just have to use it wisely, walk with a purpose, MAKE the time. I have told my own children the same and given that advice to a school assembly, commenting that it might be the best advice I might ever impart; walk with a purpose. The statement is not simply a metaphor. Walking confidently and stridently with shoulders back, walking as though you have to be somewhere in a hurry, making the time for others who need your time, engaging in physical and artistic activity, serving your community and always showing enthusiasm manifest themselves in productive and positive people; people that others warm to, people who others follow and are inspired by, people with a purpose and the energy to fulfil that purpose. Do you walk with a purpose? Tips to build confidence: Stand up straight, look people in the eye, voice your opinion, speak clearly (articulate your speech; no slang; proper pronunciation), write clearly (clean and clear; don’t write like a text message unless it is a text message), give compliments, learn to take a compliment (don’t play it off... smile and say “thank you”), get dressed (looking good = feeling good), Walk with purpose (don’t doddle or slouch, head up, eyes forward, good pace), ask (if you want something, don’t be afraid to ask for it), know where you’re going; if you don’t know where you’re headed, no one else will, push forward; failure doesn’t mean the end, it means try again or try something else. Remain positive. Reference: ZenSationalLiving MR BRUCE SIMONS Principal The Hamilton and Alexandra College, Hamilton, VIC, Australia hamiltoncollege.vic.edu
