Kupwara, July 5: A large number of students of different areas of this frontier district resented the move of Kashmir University authorities to shift their exam centres from Kupwara to Baramulla district and other distant places The aggrieved students said Kashmir University has been conducting the B.Ed exams at Kupwara for the past over 10 years. “However, this year the Kashmir University authorities without any reason shifted the centre to Baramulla and other distant places,” they said. “We apprised the varsity authorities of the matter, however our request met with deaf ears,” said a student from Chowkibal area here. “The IGNOU and other central universities are making efforts to provide all types of facilities to the rural students at their door steps, ironically the Kashmir University authorities are creating trouble for students by shifting their centre from one district to another,” they said. “By such move students living in far off areas particularly female get discouraged in pursuing higher education” they added. The aggrieved students also resented the exam timings. They said the exam will be held from 2 pm to 5 pm. “I have to travel around 80 kilometres from Sogam to Baramulla to appeal in the exams. It will be difficult for me to reach home after appearing in exams as there is hardly any transport available in evening hours,” said female student. “We appeal the KU authorities to look into the matter,” they said.
