Kurdish UN Worker Released by Militants in Central African Republic - A Kurdish UN worker kidnapped on Tuesday by unidentified militants in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic (CAR),was released later that day. Hamadoun Touré, spokesman for the UN mission in CAR, told the Anadolu news agency, “She was released in the late hours of Tuesday following talks between the UN mission and anti-balaka militiamen.” Gamal Hisho, who works for the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA)’s communications department, was abducted early Tuesday near Bangui airport, a MINUSCA source told AA on Tuesday. The abduction follows an incident on Monday in which a cleric and French woman were kidnapped by the same militants. The country has been mired in sectarian violence since a coup in 2013 ousted the Christian president Francois Bozize. The interim Muslim president, Michel Djotodia, stepped down last year, causing tit for tat reprisals between the Christian anti-balaka militants and Muslim seleka fighters.
