L.A. and Long Beach Mayors Garcetti and Garcia, L.A. Councilman Joe Busciano and Port leadership applaud ILWU and PMA for requesting federal mediation assistance… STATEMENTS: We are pleased that the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) have agreed to enter mediation. Its in everyones best interest that goods keep flowing and people are working at our ports, which have a profound impact on our regional and national economies. We all want a contract thats fair to the industry, its workers, and the Ports of L.A. and Long Beach, and we are hopeful that the involvement of a federal mediator is the missing piece needed to get one signed. Given the importance of our Ports to the livelihoods of our constituents and our cities economies, we stand ready to assist in any way necessary. -- L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti and Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia I am happy to learn that the ILWU and the PMA have agreed to federal mediation to help with ongoing contract talks. It is critical that we avoid a deterioration in talks and arrive at an agreement as quickly as possible. I am hopeful that we will come to a resolution that ensures continued growth of these valuable jobs that strengthen the future of our community and its economy, said L.A. Councilman Joe Buscaino.
