LAHORE: Former member British House of Commons, Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar surrendered his UK nationality and reached here on Saturday to take up new job. He is highly likely to gain the slot of Governor Punjab as Makhdoom Syed Ahmed Mehmood has left the office. Talking to media soon after his arrival in Lahore, Sawar said he has withdrawn UK citizenship “only under the spirit of serving the country.” Reply to a question about gaining governorship, he said “the PM is entitled to decide on it…I will sincerely discharge whatever the responsibility is assigned to me.” However, he said that he will fulfil his responsibility if chosen for any position in Pakistan. He said that he had earlier worked in the fields of health and education in Pakistan. To a question, Chaudhry Sarwar said that British police work independently and without political influence. He said that British cannot even transfer a police constable. Pakistani-origin Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, 60, hailing from Punjab Toba Tek Singh town, moved to UK in 60s and was elected as first Muslim MP from Glasgow in 1997
