LAW Association of Zambia members who feel sidelined on account of being PF sympathisers should air their views using laid down channels, says Lusaka lawyer Abraham Mwansa. There have been complaints by some lawyers that there was an attempt by some Law Association of Zambia members to sideline those perceived to be sympathisers of the PF. But LAZ president James Banda said the perceptions had no basis and were unfounded as the association was a professional body whose members enjoyed rights and freedoms as provided for in its Act. Commenting on the matter, Mwansa said LAZ was a professional body that embraced all its members regardless of their political affiliation and urged members that felt sidelined on political basis to air out their views. "I think the way the president for LAZ has put it is how it is supposed to be. LAZ is an association that embraces all its members irrespective of their political affiliation or indeed their alignment with any political party," Mwansa said. He challenged aggrieved members to follow the laid down procedure of voicing out their concerns. "If there are members that think they will not render support to any views espoused by LAZ members who associate themselves with political parties, that is quite unfortunate. But I would agree with sentiments given by LAZ president that the association is a professional body. However, if there is anybody or indeed any member that is aggrieved, channels are there through which they can voice out their concerns," Mwansa said. He said members of LAZ needed to remain resolute and objective in all their dealings so as to direct the nation wisely on issues to do with the law. "As members of LAZ, we need to remain objective in conducting our affairs. The nation is looking up to us as a professional body and as such we need to give proper guidance as a professional association," said Mwansa. Sources had disclosed that there was a deliberate attempt by some executive members of LAZ not to inform particular lawyers on certain meetings as they were accused of being stooges for the government.
