LIAM Charity Update - WOW What a couple of months we have - TopicsExpress

LIAM Charity Update - WOW What a couple of months we have had. Over the last 3-4months we have seen a wholesale change of attitude across the majority of Hospitals in Bali. 12 months ago Methanol Poisoning was acknowledged but rarely spoken about and people were sceptical of the LIAM Charity and our message. Now we are witnesses an awakening of knowledge sharing and genuine desire to tackle this issue. Leading the way has been the Sanglah hospital who, with the help of Professor Di Brown from the AusAid and the Australian National Critical Care and Trauma Unit, have been working with the LIAM Charity to facility training workshops across Bali and Lombok. Now we are seeing BIMC and Siloam Hospitals leaping forward and embracing the training and treatment practices. There is now an acknowledgement that there is a serious Methanol Poisoning issue in Indonesia, Hospitals are now applying the correct diagnosis processes, are test blood acidity which is the easient way to confirm Methanol Poisoning, and are administering Ethanol as a frontline metabolic blocker that will save a persons life while dialysis is used to remove the Methanol from the system. This is truely amazing considering where we started. Well done to everyone involved, Sanglah, BIMC, Siloam, LIAM Team in Indonesia, DI Brown. and all our supporters. Special mention to NZ AID who have provided the funding for the medical training programe to date, and to the Methanol Institute who are currently funding the community education programe and will be continuing to support both programes in 2015.
