The lights are on, the organ is playing O Little Town of Bethlehem, and your friends new and old are gathering today sharing smiles and ready to praise God in prayer, song and scripture. Come on in The Little Country Chapel, Were ready to begin with a prayer of praise. Our Father in heaven. As we quickly approach the day of celebration of the birth your son, we can only marvel at your awesome work. God in the form of an infant, that would grew to do miraculous healings and raising the dead back to life, as well as helping those in need. He would grow into being the greatest teacher in the world. His subsequent death on the cross of Calvary at 33 years of age, would save His people that would believe for eternity. As we celebrate this most special time of the year, let us give praise and thanks to you Father for this special gift. We pray in Jesus precious name, Amen. Our opening song of the Christmas season, Do You Hear What I Hear? Said the night wind to the little lamb, do you see what I see Way up in the sky, little lamb, do you see what I see A star, a star, dancing in the night With a tail as big as a kite With a tail as big as a kite Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy, do you hear what I hear Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy, do you hear what I hear A song, a song, high above the trees With a voice as big as the sea With a voice as big as the sea Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king, do you know what I know In your palace warm, mighty king, do you know what I know A Child, a Child shivers in the cold Let us bring Him silver and gold Let us bring Him silver and gold Said the king to the people everywhere, listen to what I say Pray for peace, people everywhere! listen to what I say The Child, the Child, sleeping in the night He will bring us goodness and light He will bring us goodness and light Lets turn in our Bible to Matthew 1: 20, 21 (20)...an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said. Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. (21) She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. THE PROFILE OF JOSEPH The strength of what we believe is measured by how much we are willing to suffer for those beliefs. Joseph was a man with strong beliefs. He was prepared to do what was right, despite the pain he knew it would cause. He not only tried to do what was right, he also tried to do it in the right way. When Mary told Joseph about her pregnancy, Joseph knew the child was not his. He had a respect for Marys character and the explanations she gave him, as well as her attitude toward the expected child. Still someone else was the childs father, and it was mind boggling to think that someone else was God. Joseph decided to break off the engagement and do it such a way that it would not bring shame to Mary. He intended to act with justice and love. God then sent a messenger to Joseph to confirm Marys story and open another way of obedience for Joseph to take Mary as his wife. Joseph obeyed God, married Mary and honored her virginity until the baby was born. Joseph was a man of integrity. A descendent of King David and was the legal and earthly father of Jesus. He was a person sensitive to Gods guidance and willing to do Gods will no matter what the consequence.
