Ladies & Gentlemen, Its a sad morning around here in the part of the world. Especially, when my eyes, heart and soul havent stopped crying since I saw gory pictures of what looks to be a sickening extra-judicial murder of Borno citizens, all in the name of fight terrorism. Since these have been brought to my attention, I have waited too long to verify the authenticity of the story and I feel an obligation to my conscience to let you all know and make your own judgement. The said pictures (attached) going around on social media purported to be the Nigerian Securitys Joint Task Force rounding up innocent & harmless citizens in Borno and summarily being executed, and later buried in mass graves. (as seen in the pictures) If these pictures are true, what remains the fate of you and I who could end up being victims as these were? I have tried to make sense of this to no joy. I thought, even if these people were alleged Boko Haram members, should they be summarily executed? Shouldnt they have been handed over to be prosecuted? Its a shame when human lives no longer hold values to men who swore to protect them. Its a shame we do not realise that turning a blind eye to such injustice can only continue to breed reprisals. Do we wonder why our already impoverished societies find terrorism a appealing succour? In as much as I condemn all forms of killing, either the so-called legitimate killing or other, would anyone blame members of these communities, who have been historically failed by their country, for taking to arms? I am of the belief that in order not to continue to inadvertently stir up support for terrorism, we need to rise up together against all forms of injustice. We need to ask questions. Can I ask every conscientious soul join me in seeking answers for these lost lives? Please like, share, comment till makes it into mainstream media.- Aare Oluwaseun Akinwande #StopExtraJudicialKillingInNIGERIA #ValueForHumanLives
