Last night I went to a zocalo public square event reviewing - TopicsExpress

Last night I went to a zocalo public square event reviewing Garcettis first year as #LAmayor. Of course most of the crowd loves Garcetti. But a few were there on behalf of the poor. (I served hot lunches to the homeless earlier that afternoon, then went to the meeting on my own accord, but Im sure the poor really appreciate your attendance at the event.) The biggest complaint about Garcetti was his lack of a BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal). And the best suggestion of a BHAG was Schools. Before you start seizureing from flashbacks of Antonio, they didnt want a LAUSD takeover. Rather they had really interesting ideas of using great streets and economic development to support communities near schools. The mayor cant fix education in his next 3 years, but he can fix some streets and sidewalks, and he can spur economic development. If chooses to do that around schools on the tipping point he could just save education through urban design. A brilliant concept. Now, I just need to find a movie that lays that out a but better than this status update does. https://kickstarter/projects/2065498865/new-urbanism-film-festival-2nd-annual
