Last night, Santees Falcon football team - our young men - played against a typical suburban Valley team that fielded more players with more size and more playing experience than our teams will ever have. The odds were long against us, as they usually are. Yet our Falcons came within just a play or two of advancing further in the playoffs than any Santee Football has ever before. They represented themselves, their families and our school with with pride, poise and passion. They made known the name of our school to people in places who have a distinctly distorted perception of kids from South Central. Even though the Falcons did not reach their goal, their performance last night was so impressive, that it brought to mind Rudyard Kiplings famous poem If Last night, our Falcons left adolesence behind. Last night, they became young men. If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son! - R. Kipling
