Last night after rehearsal, I ventured out with a dear friend of mine, and was told something thats settled in to making me pretty upset. A guy at the bar was obsessing over said-friend, and then started obsessing over me when said-friend went to the restroom. He complimented me on my body, my conversational skills, and my skin color. After a while, I found myself in conversation with another guy and said-friend returned from talking to the previous guy. As it turns out, he asked him if he was a n*gger lover after a comment was made about Barack and, obviously, being with me last night. Said-friend reacted negatively to that comment, and the guy recanted and laughed it off as if he were joking. Im always torn with situations like these. If I werent in such a good mood last night, I would have (without a doubt) confronted the guy. I didnt because I didnt want to ruin a great night...so, I brushed it off. But what upsets me about these situations is that I would so much rather you be a complete racist and make it clear that you want absolutely nothing to do with me, as opposed to smiling in my face and basically trying to use me to get closer to said-friend. Not surprised that someone would say what he said, but I am completely surprised by the rug pulled up under me. Needless to say, he didnt get closer to said-friend. At the end of it all, overall, Im saddened that Im really not surprised by the whole thing.
