Last night on ABC Catalyst was the airing of Low Carb Diet - Fat or Ficton I received many messages saying I made an appearance. Ha, nice to see. I didnt watch it last night as I had to go out, however I am sitting in front of the fire now ready to watch it... So tell me, what did you think of it? What thoughts are going through your mind right now? Who has been doing it? Results? Even though I havent seen it, I did attend the Low Carb, Down Under seminar in Melbourne and I just want to share my thoughts. I want you to keep in mind that Low Carb, High Fat is not a one size fits all approach. Note that your carboydrate intake will reduce when you remove refined carboydrates and sugars from your diet. When one macronutrient is reduced we need to icrease the consumption of another macronutrient so we do not go hungry. In an ancestral diet when we reduce the intake of refined carbohydrates then the consumption of good fats is increased. This does not mean chugging down a tin of coconut cream a day, nor does it mean adding slabs of butter to every meal. From an evolutionary perspective simply eating grass-fed meats, wild caught fish, nuts and seeds you will receive a healthy fat intake. There is no need to fear fat in our diet as its the bodies preferred energy source and its essential for the cognitive function of the brain. Similarily we should not fear natural unrefined carbohydrates. I am talking about your vegetables!! Think of it as lower carb, higher fat. You will do this automatically when from your diet you remove the refined starchy carboydrates, sugars and instead enjoy delicious variety of meat, fish, seasonal vegetables, nuts and seeds, seasonal fruit and natural fats.
