Last night one of our local lawmakers posted a remark that directly and personally attacked the Democratic party. It appeared to come out of nowhere and the issue it was related to had previously died down in the media . His comments came across as a political jab and reinvigorated a debate that had all but subsided. My question is this.........When are we (political leaders and grass roots organizers) from both sides going to stop the very heated and personal attacks? Debating facts, going over records and looking at the ramifications of policy are all good and should be researched and debated. Attacking morals, character and personal ethics of a party because one is from the opposite side of the aisle does nothing but further the divide and add to the growing vitriol in this nation. When Democrats and Republicans engage in this back and forth tit for tat school yard bullying of one another we not only hurt our own brands, but we cause many to retreat into political isolationism or drop out and become unaffiliated. The real casualties of the political war for superiority are the citizens caught in the middle. Every day Americans who are just trying to make ends meet, pay the mortgage and send their children through school and to college dont give a rats patootie about the dribble we politicos think is so important. In fact they look at us with disdain and label us elitists, out of touch with reality. In our advancement to win the us vs. them political war we have created total chaos. The sad thing is we cant even see what we are doing. perhaps the coming mutiny from citizens declaring a plague on Both our Houses will become a wake up call to channel our energies away from character assassination and work toward common solutions that have real value and purpose to the commoners on the ground down below.
