Last night we were invited to a Couples Dinner - no children. It was scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm at a very nice party center in an expensive part of town. That day we were told it would begin at 8:00 pm. We went with the mission president and his wife and arrived at 8:00. We didnt want to be late for dinner. There were only a couple of other couples there when we arrived. We were shown to our table and by 9:00 pm some crackers and great tasting spread were served at the tables. By 9:30 drinks - Guaraná and Suco de Uva - were being served to the tables. By 10:00 pm most of the people had arrived and by 10:45 we were greeted by those in charge of the dinner. By 11:00 pm we were falling asleep at our table. By 11:30, we decided it was bedtime and got up to leave. On the way out we noticed that food was beginning to be set on the serving tables. This morning we heard from those who stayed that they didnt get home until 3:00 am. It seems to be a cultural trait to begin dinners and parties at midnight and go into the wee hours of the morning. We didnt mind. We enjoyed ourselves, visiting with others. I really need to miss a few more meals, anyway.
