Last week I preached a sermon in my church about church in transition Ill not bore you with all the details but were going through quite a few painful changes with the vision of becoming something much better, much sharper, something more fit for purpose in this 21st century As part of the sermon I used an analogy from my recent 2 to 3 years as a driving instructor. I stated that Ive been an ADI 24 years, have a steady supply of pupils, a waiting list, a good pass rate and at my last OFSTED style exam (the check test) I scored 100% with all ticks in the grade 6 column. Which put me in the top few % in the country. (Lol) But the changes to the industry have been difficult for me as Ive had no money to invest in further training. The recession had hit me pretty hard and still to this day Im paying off debt. As a result Ive dabbled in coaching and ccl but have never got to be an expert in this new arena. I also noted that Im not quite as effective as an instructor now, my pass rate has declined about 15% this year. Also if I was to rate my lessons this year they would have gone down from a 10 to an 8. My question to the church was should I invest in further training and press on to become the best ADI (ADC) in this new world or go back to my old tried and tested ways as a traditional instructor? Methods that will see me return to a very good pass rate and probably a top grade until I retire. So should I stop dabbling with coaching or engage in it totally? If only I had the time and money!
