Last week, I saw an article (it was actually an opinion piece disguised as news) about Common Core. It claimed that the new program is only about standards, not about curriculum. While technically that may be true, the reality is that curriculum is changing to fit the new standards, and those changes are not just in benchmarks, but in teaching methodology. Ive also heard that the big standardized tests like the ACT and SAT will be adapting to reflect these changes. That means that non-Common Core students at private and home schools (or in pulic schools where states opt out) will not be equipped to do as well on the critical college entrance exams. To say that Common Core is merely about standards is to turn a blind eye to the larger changes that are happening.
