Last year, when Ed Kashi was hired by La Isla Foundation to travel to Chichigalpa, Nicaragua, a funeral was held every day for workers who had died of chronic kidney disease. Today, The New York Times Lens Blog looks at Kashis photographs of this health crisis and his Indie Voices fundraiser to return to the Island of Widows to continue documentation on his own in the hopes of generating a larger dialogue about the issue.
