Leaders must do what they expect from their staff “Be willing to do what you expect your officers to do.” This was one of the messages delivered by the EUPOL Command, Control and Communications (CCC) Unit in a leadership course held from 13 until 18 September 2014 in Police District 16 in Kabul. The EUPOL CCC experts Mats Hvit and Torsten Struck conducted the last planned course to the company commander and the heads of the different sections of PD16. The time ran so fast that it was nearly impossible to answer all the questions raised by the participants. During the course the attendees dealt also with practical major incident scenarios. The CCC course was part of EUPOLs Project Phoenix which includes building leadership capacity as well as a key focus on community policing. The Afghan colleagues appreciated the course and assessed it as very useful in their daily work. This is another example of EUPOL ensuring sustainable capacity development, in this instance at the operational level.
