Learn to breathe for better results. The Oxford American Dictionary defines breathing as “the process of taking air into and expelling it from the lungs.” For optimal results, its important to understand the anatomy of breathing. While working out, what is the most optimal way to breathe? Depending on who you ask or what you read, it seems the responses could well vary. We suggest that your breathing pattern should be equivalent to the amount of effort and force involved in each specific exercise or movement. For example, if youve had a stressful day, try before bedtime, lying on your back and placing your legs on the wall in parallel position. Perform 5-10 minutes of deep belly (diaphragmatic) breathing. Keep your mouth closed and breathe in and out through the nose. This type of breathing stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, inviting the mind to calm. Keep in mind that breathing during cycling and weight training will of course be different respectively. Also, learn more about breathing during the fight or flight responses, so you may better deal with life stressors. Todays quiz asks: where is the majority of oxygen- rich blood found? A. In the diaphragm B. In the lower lobes of the lungs C. In the upper lobes of the lungs D. In the heart E. None of the above. Enjoy a stress-free, oxygen-rich evening. Remember that ever body is different so observe your own responses and reactions so you may best reap those hard earned results!
