Learning and understanding another language can be extremely - TopicsExpress

Learning and understanding another language can be extremely difficult for some, but for others, like myself, it has been one of the most fulfilling and wonderful experiences that will undoubtably benefit who I am and what I want to be. My mother is a high school Spanish teacher, and my whole life she has always talked to me in Spanish. Why are doing this? I would say as an English speaking 6 year old. Why do I need to learn this other language? As I grew up, my love, admiration and knowledge for the Spanish language and culture became so great. I have been working so hard and I am now, at 20 years-old, almost completely fluent in Spanish after going to two EF (Education First) immersion schools; one in Quito, Ecuador and the other in Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Being immersed in a culture is truly the way to learn it, love it and want to continue a life in it. As a college student, my hope would be to achieve my Bachelors in a double concentration of Musical Theatre and Performance and Directing with a minor in Spanish Foreign Language. I hope to get my masters in Education, and while Im at it, I want to get a certification in ESL(English as a second language) teaching. When I have obtained all of the experience that I need, I want to move to Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica, go to the EF immersion school that I have attended and possibly be the first person to start a special program, inside of the immersion school system, that allows students from all around the world to learn how to speak Spanish by doing theatre and music! I would love to direct plays, teach music, and make a difference in anyones life. It is my absolute dream for this to happen. I also want to raise my children in the Pura Vida lifestyle that embodies this beautiful country and culture. I want to have a life, a job and happiness within this wonderful Spanish environment. It is what I have always wanted to do. I know that it may take some time to get to this specific, but wonderful goal, but I am so passionate and ambitious with who am and what I want for my life. I love Spanish so much. I hope that one day, the entirety of who I am, who my husband is and who my children are is because of the Spanish culture that I want my life to be in. I look back on those times when I wondered why my mother would always speak to me in Spanish, and I am so thankful for everything she has done for me. Gracias mama, por todo lo que has hecho por mi. Gracias por ayudarme a crecer en la mujer con una cabeza fuerte que soy y quiero ser usted. Holly Charpentier Vogel #LoveSpanish spanishdict/scholarship Samantha Rohr Miranda Starkid Beck-Bird
