In 1962 he formed the Sergio Mendes Trio, and then the first version of his famous successive combos: Brazil 65 (‘66, ‘67, ‘68…). The Brazil ‘66 vintage ushered in a period that was especially prosperous for the A&M label with producer Herb Alpert. His hit arrangements of the bossa nova and pop of the period established Sergio Mendes definitively on the international stage. Mendes became the Mercedes of the hit parades. In 2006, a vibrant homage was finally paid to him by the new generation (Q-Tip, will.i.am, Jill Scott…), who accompany him, along with his idol Stevie Wonder, on the album Timeless, the culminating point of a career that is rich from every aspect.
