Lent Devotional Day 33- Friday 4/11/14 John 14:9 (NLT) Jesus replied, “...Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! If you see a person pure and humble, that is a great vision. For what is greater than such a vision, to see the invisible God in a visible man or woman. -St Pachomius -The Desert, An Anthology for Lent, John Moses (Amazon Kindle) Reflection: Who do people see when they see me? Jesus called us the light of the world and told us to let our light shine in such a way that people will see who we are and what we do, and recognize God through us. How do we do that? When someone commends me for some good deed or accomplishment, do I lower my head, try to look humble, and point my finger up, indicating that Im giving God the credit? I dont think thats what Jesus meant. God wants to be so present in us that people sense something more than when they are with us. Not by us acting weird and spiritual but by being natural and real. This is the transformative process that takes place as we follow Jesus. The cleaning, the pruning, the shaping, the healing, the loving... All these things are part of the transformation that takes place from the inside out. And people are aware of it. Those who know us see the change. Those we meet see something good in us. Who do you see when you look in the mirror? Are you more conscious of your own flaws & failings, or of Gods transforming presence in you? Its not that we ignore the flaws and failings. Its that we DONT ignore the presence of God! As we become real, those who want to be real are drawn to us. Believe it or not, the most natural thing for us is to be vessels or conduits for the presence of God to flow into the world around us. Dont confuse natural with common. The visible presence of God in people may not be that common, but it is the most natural thing in the universe. Its what we were created for. Its what God desires. The question is, Do I desire it? Its why Jesus came. He came to show us natural and to make it real. Who do people see when they see you? Starter Prayer: Invisible God, be seen in me... First by me, then by all.
