Lesson of the day: Ask better questions After attending todays John Maxwells event, it really got me revisiting a lot of fundamentals about my work as a coach. Interestingly, questions formed a large part of my growing life as a teenager. Id always find myself asking, - Why am I always feeling lonely yet not wanting to be with people? - What does it mean to be fulfilled? - What will really make me happy? - How do I fall in love and what does it mean to love someone? - Why am I alive and what does it mean to be alive, not just existing? These questions strangely led me to a life coaching program in 2008 that gave me the clarity to find out what truly makes me tick and go after various experiences in my life that I would never have dreamt of doing at all. Though I wont say Ive found all the answers I need to the questions above, Ive gotten enough clarity to move ahead with sufficient certainty and courage. Later as a coach, my Master Coach would often say, The quality of questions you ask reflect the stage of life youre at and the game youre playing And how true is that? Like how when I see a successful person now, Ill naturally ask myself, How is he thinking, feeling or doing differently that allows him to win at his game? instead of feeling bitter and sore and telling myself back then, hes just lucky. Just being in the right frame of mind and asking the right questions sets you in a state of empowerment rather than disillusionment. You will naturally find more opportunities for learning and growth. And the best thing of it all -- you see the world with the curious eyes of a 6-year-old boy again. In fact, one of the biggest advices John Maxwell shared during the event today was the concept of Power Lunches meaning buying a person whom you admire, who is bigger, faster and better than you. He shared a series of 7 questions that you can ask and will allow you to make the best of your precious time with this successful someone and learn the most from him/her. If you like to find out these 7 questions, just let me know your interest with a comment, Yes, I want to know the 7 questions! and Ill reveal it in a bit!
