It was located beside Gordon Manor Pharmacys original space. The Clore Store...which later became South Fork Superette? Claude Slater? He had a farm on Country Club that was sold after he died. The day care center and the apartments...Salem Square?...now occupies the land. Claude could be seen riding a mule to Welfares about 3 evenings a week in his bibs and that ever-present wide-brimmed felt hat. The old weatherboard country store on Country Club Road...owned by Claude and operated by his wife...that was located between Turner Street and Cliffdale Drive? The 2-story house where James Eubanks started his veterinary practice? Jim Cheek will remember it...and a certain Basset Hound that he picked up after the doc had administered a laxative...and the predictable result. (Sorry Jimmy. I had to.) Gordon Manor barber shops original location? Gordon Manor Grills original location? (Hint: It was where the barber shop was.) Before Silas Creek parkway was installed...and Hawthorne ran all the way from Ardmore to Country Club Road. (Renamed Keating Drive) Who remembers when Poindexter Lumber Company on Tucker Avenue caught fire and burned to the ground? South Fork Baptist Church was built on the site. Who remembers Caust Transous barber shop...and Jimmy Woosleys auto repair shop, South Fork Garage...right beside it? Who remembers Richmond Connie Doc Beck? Who remembers the night that the Weatherman boys...while making a high-speed pass in an old liquor car...cemented their place in Signal 30 movies for the next 20 years? It happened on I-40 at Silas Creek, and we heard the impact in South Fork. Who remembers when Putt-Putt and Jump-Jump was located at Thruway? Who remembers the merry-go-round and the pony rides on the Thruway upper level? Who remembers where Deweys Bakery was originally located? (Hint. It wasnt at Thruway.) Ready...Set...Go!
