Letter: Bursaries Boss, Irene Chirwa, Must Go While its easy to put all the blame regarding the bursaries fiasco on the government, I think its equally important to critically examine the conduct and performance of the Irene Chirwa headed bursaries committee. In my humble opinion I believe that this committee has been a source of misery and anguish for most of us students from disadvantaged background. The bursaries committee do their allocation of bursaries in a very scandalous manner, its common to see individuals from well to families get 100% while those from poor families who do not have the ‘connections’ most end up with 75% and 50% and in some cases with nothing at all. Its an open corruption that corruption is rife and the bursaries committee and those of us who cannot afford to pay pipo to put us on 100% are left out despite genuinely needing it.
