Life Recovery Bible helps for 2nd Samuel, Chapter 15: _verses 7-10 For Absalom, it had been eleven years since the rape of Tamar, nine years since his murder of Amnon, six years since his return to Jerusalem, and four years since his awkward reunion with David. He had given up hope of ever being truly reconciled with his father. Using religion as a cover, Absalom led an open rebellion against David. In recovery we are called to seek reconciliation with the people we have wronged. We must be careful not to delay; if we wait too long, we may suffer as David did. _vs 19-22 As we face difficult trials in life, faithful friends can be our greatest assets. Ittai had led a foreign contingent of Davids armies for many years. As a foreigner, he could have returned to Jerusalem and declared his allegiance to Absalom. But despite a probable tragic outcome, he stood by David. We need to seek out and cultivate true friends who will come along side us and support us in recovery, even when things are tough. Sometimes the crucible of affliction helps us to see who our real friends are. It may also strengthen relationships that were not close previously, as is the case of David and Ittai.
