Life. So precious. Everyone...this is a note to remind you to be careful with yourselves...in a moment, everything can change. Yesterday afternoon, I was driving south on the 101 listening to NPR. There was a woman discussing the horrifying practice of honor kills of women in Pakistan and the rampant disregard for womens lives. I always listen and pray for the world to become a better place, for people with no regard for human life to magically find it but sometimes the facts are just too bleak to ignore. I couldnt listen anymore. I was disturbed and pensive; I looked down to change the radio channel, traffic stopped short, I blacked out and woke up to clouds of what I thought was smoke (it was airbag powder) hissing sounds and liquid pouring through my dash...I took off my seatbelt and jumped out of the car to see if the driver ahead of me was ok and she was completely fine. (Thank god) i looked back at my car, horrified by how thoroughly crunched up to the windshield it was and suggested we should move away in case anything worse should happen. The woman I hit was thankfully so kind and as peacefully accepting of the situation as I was; we hugged and shared how happy we were to be all in one piece. The CHP policeman, the CHP tow man, the AAA tow man and the junk lot owner were seriously all the nicest people Ive met all in one day. I couldnt of asked for group of kinder souls to escort me through this shocking afternoon. My hand is bruised, my elbow hurts, my arm is burned from the airbag, my neck & head hurt and my left knee is sore but I simply dont remember hitting any part of my body. About an hour and a half after the accident, I still had a headache and started feeling really dizzy and lightheaded. My brother picked me up and took me to the ER, they examined me, confirmed I have a concussion and sent me home with some prescriptions. All I can say is: things like this happen so fast, when you least expect it and Im still in a bit of shock but Im truly thankful. Im a sore everywhere from the impact and stranded without a car but Im so incredibly thankful. A day like yesterday could be looked at many different ways...but I can see clearly and wholeheartedly that yesterday truly was my lucky day. Please be safe out there.
