Life pretty far from Gaza: Yesterday I went to the Mythopia conference - an annual fantasy conference that takes place in Modiin. After the last ceasefire collapsed, people started asking it if was safe to come. The organizers said that Modiin was very safe. Since the beginning of protective edge there had been only five alarms, and one rocket shot down over the city. Of course, there was a safe room in the municipal library, where the conference was taking place. So a few hundred people gathered to hear lectures about Lord of the RIngs, Fantasy written in Eretz Yisrael in 1918 (yes, it seems there is such a thing,) and other good literature. All was fine until almost 21:00, when we had a siren. And an iron dome intercept over the city. All in honor of Mythopia! Because everyone knows that the biggest threat to the Hamas is from people who read Tolkien over and over.... (Everyone was fine. We went to the safe room, waited a few minutes, and continued with the lectures.)
