Little history on the new potential custom fleece supplier!!! I think I hit paydirt...I luvs her already! Monique Akar 1934 - 2009 Monique Akar, 74, died on July 4, 2009, after a hard fought battle with cancer. Monique Akar was born on Sept. 12, 1934, in Chicago to Gustav and Edith Schaper. She went to Hayward State University and graduated with Bachelor of Arts in education. She went on to earn a masters degree in fine art. She started Dogonit Gallery in 1984 and grew it into an international Internet business. After moving to Flagstaff in 1991, she served as president, dog show chairman and on the board of directors of the Flagstaff Kennel Club. She was involved in Second Chance Center for Animals and as a member of the board. She help start Flagstaff Pet Assistance League, FlagPAL and was the president for many years. One of her many accomplishments was heading the building team for two of Flagstaffs off leash parks (bark parks). She is survived by her brother, Ron (Jan); her children, Teri (Frank), TJ, Tim (Janine) and Todd (Liona); and many friends. The memorial service was held at the Thorpe Bark Park, and was well attended by her two and four footed friends. Dogonit Gallery/Monique Akar Designs is still in family hands and has moved from Flagstaff Arizona to Portland Oregon.
