Liverpool are reportedly set to turn their attention to Bayern - TopicsExpress

Liverpool are reportedly set to turn their attention to Bayern Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri after missing out on Armenian Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Borussia Dortmund. According to The Metro, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is still very keen on bringing in a young, talented midfielder to the club, and has insisted his club is going to remain active in the transfer window, despite the several players they have signed already. And the Northern Irishman has his sights set on Shaqiri, who, despite his career stagnating a bit last year at Bayern, is thought to be a very exciting attacking midfielder. Xherdan Shaqiri The 21-year-old was thought to be one of the world’s most exciting players when Munich signed the Swiss international from FC Basel last summer, but he found first team football hard to come by in Bayern’s incredible season and his future in Germany remains in doubt under new boss Pep Guardiola. It’s thought Shaqiri will meet with the new boss to discuss his future, but reports are the midfielder will ask for a move away. And Liverpool are very keen on the Swiss, according to the newspaper. With Rodgers building a new, young looking Reds side, Shaqiri may fit perfectly into the dynamics at Anfield and he would be given the chance for regular football. The stumbling block in this move may prove to be his price tag, with Bayern apparently not willing to sell Shaqiri cheaply. A chance of a potential loan move may be on the cards. But it’s thought Liverpool would only be interested in a cash move, and are hoping to begin talks with the European Champions about a possible transfer, the newspaper claims. New look Liverpool As said previously, the Swiss winger would fit perfectly into the new look Liverpool side that Rodgers is building. The 21-year-old is clearly young, fast, skilful and extremely talented, but his main asset to the club may be in his versatility, with Shaqiri happiest on the wing but adaptable to play behind the striker or even at left back. And the Liverpool bosses are said to be happy to pay something around £20million to land their man, according to the paper. Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto and Simon Mignolet are some of the young signings Rodgers has made to help push his side hopefully into a possible top four finish next season, and is hoping youth over experience can make his side much stronger than they were last season.
