Living Life Devotional - David, the Fugitive (1 Samuel 20:1-11 NIV) Today scriptures seems to reveals a sort of court case between David (defendant), Saul (plaintiff) and Jonathan (mediator). Earlier, we read about how Jonathan loved David as himself (1 Samuel 18:3), but now David defends himself (V1) and challenges Jonathan (V8). Jonathan also defends his father (V2,9), while trying his best not to let his best friend down (V4). What a turn of events and it shows us how truly fragile human relationships really are. No matter which account we read, each side is standing ground based on their limited knowledge of matters. In the context of scriptures, we are at an advantage because we read from the account of a third party. For Jonathan, it is clearly not the case and he is trying his best not to misjudge anyone (one being his own father and the other his best friend), based on the information he has so far. But even his best efforts results in much finger pointing and distrust. In our daily handling of the relationships with our family and friends, are there also times where we have to play the role of a mediator? Often times, it can be just as tricky, especially when it comes to our closest loved ones. 手心是肉, 手背也是肉. Who then should we trust when we plead our case? Hebrews 8:6-10 NIV But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises. For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. But God found fault with the people and said: “The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not remain faithful to my covenant, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord. This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. The Lord alone has authority in judging us when we present our cases/petitions for our loved ones. The question is how far are we willing to trust Him when we plead? In our day to day dealings, always have a Christ-centered perspective of matters and lean not on our own understanding/knowledge (which is too often limited and doesnt reflect Gods righteousness). Give glory and power to the Lord because He alone is our sovereign King. John 8:7-11 NIV When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
