Her work is sturdy, of superb quality and workmanship with the use of excellent natural fabrics and quilting patterns that she chooses for each piece. Everything Margaret creates is done start to finish in her little studio by the orchard on her 20 acre rural homestead with the mighty Nisqually River flowing by from the glaciers on Mt. Rainier in view to the East. Perhaps these powerful natural symbols are what infuse her work with its own potent energetic. Or maybe it’s a combination of her natural surroundings and her Cherokee blood. Whatever inspires Margaret’s work contributes to its splendid, sunny originality. Her larger piece work is artistically unrestricted and unspoiled by predictable color or design “rules”. Her unconventional use of color and pattern is confident and playful, sometimes radical, rather eccentric and therefore richly dimensional. Margaret makes children’s’ quilts that will thrill little ones with their color, pattern and visual animation. From the tiny fawns or farm animals, dinosaurs or alphabets to the loud police cars, fire engines, helicopters, boats and motorcycles there is sure to be a child that will delight in their very own cotton quilt design. They are soft and cozy and perfectly child sized-sure to be a favorite to the very last moment of childhood and then durable enough to pass down for generations. Papoose quilts are reversible with solid color pattern and beautifully crafted quilted stitching for each piece.
