Looking thru the eyes of the artist depicts the black mans walk in America, his artistry in this piece is vividly powerful and epic, really... **In his own words ~ Artist statement The art I have created over the last 20 years has evolved predominantly from the combined influences of Symbolism and Post-Renaissance Mannerism. Reactions to my paintings vary and I have concluded that what I am representing cannot be discerned by rationalizing. We hold the convictions that pain and suffering must be avoided at all costs and disregard the actuality that these two components of life form the heart of most of the childrens stories we grow up with and are the nucleus of all grail romances in the ancient stories of all cultures. My political paintings, for the most part, demonstrate the hell-bent mission of world conquest by white Europe resulting in the subsequent genocide or enslavement of races far more culturally advanced than themselves. If we rationalize while absorbing their content, it is construed as an attack on civilization, without which there would be no progress. The means always justifies the ends. However, if we reflect on the one mandate that anchors all religious thought, we can only conclude that the means always negates the ends. Love each other as yourself. What we do to each other we do to ourselves and our own heart will keep our own record for our own fate. The American Legacy Series by Francis Caterino features large oil on canvas images of Americas past, present and future focusing on social injustice.
