Lot of excitement today out behind the store. I was actually out behind the old City Hall having a smoke and talking to a couple of swallows Ive befriended back there. There was a terrible ruckus behind me. As I turned to see what it was, there was a swarm of gackles in hot pursuit of a peregrine falcon. It looked like a seen from WWII with a medium bomber, like a B-25, trying to escape a huge flight of Messerschmitts, the gackles diving in at the falcon from all angles. They were all moving fast. Just before it got to me the falcon pulled up sharply and rolled left in a wing over and rolled out heading directly at me about eye level. It buzzed over my head by about a foot and continued east toward the river. When the falcon got to main street, the gackles broke off and turned back to the west in flights. Quite an air demonstration. When I got back to the swallows and asked them about it, all they had to say was, dumb asses. Another day in the country where we lack so many of the amenities of the metropolitan areas and seem to gain something special for it. Of course, the next play scheduled here isnt until next fall and its hard to find a street vendor except at Riverfest. But, Winnipeg just over an hour away.
