Lots of activity here this morning! We counted a total of 21 trucks set up and ready in the boat launch sandbar. Sixteen trucks/SUVs and five larger crew trucks. Up at the lodge the work crews have at least tripled with one full strike team of five structural ops fire trucks (four men per truck plus a chief for the team) and emergency response vehicles plus a busload of handcrew workers. Crews are coming from all over including Louisiana and Cal Dept. of Corrections plus Cal Conservation Corps. According to one chief and other firemen the main objective today is to tie-in two separate fires to better control their advance. Crews have been pulled from more remote areas to concentrate efforts here. The bulldozed area above the Grahams and along the ridge is a mainstay of their defense. They cut a path three blades wide which equals 24 feet while Travis was here a few days ago. They plan on doing more hand work on both sides of the bulldozed line and then they want to attempt a controlled fire to meet the advance. Two factors that should help: it is colder here today than yesterday and there is less wind plus the wind that we can feel is heading towards the fire, not coming up from behind it. Here at the lodge as we look to the river and ridges, there is no change to what we can see and have been seeing. In other words, we see smoke from behind the ridges (less today than yesterday morning due to a southern breeze) but no imminent fire or major plumes. All is well here, the Lodge is in good hands and we are all safely out of harms way.
